If you're embarrassed by your less-than-vibrant smile, something as simple as getting a teeth whitening treatment can give you an extra sparkle and a boost of confidence. You see, over time your teeth get stained from normal wear and tear—certain foods, caffeine, smoking, your genetic disposition and gum disease. Whatever the cause, your teeth are less than sparkling and less than attractive.

If you're unhappy with your smile, all you might need is a little brightening to make you happy again. Cosmetic dentist, Dr. Khullar, offers both in-office and at-home whitening systems.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening or bleaching, is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is a perfect way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because whiter teeth is now the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most prevalent method is using an at-home tooth whitening system which will whiten teeth noticeably. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it's important to thoroughly exam your teeth before hand and assess the replacement of any old crowns. fillings, etc... Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Its important to note that tooth whitening isn't permanent. Touch-ups may be required every few years. More often if you smoke or drink coffee, tea or wine.

Reasons for Teeth Whitening

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer
  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
  • Yellow, brown stained teeth

Teeth Whitening Methods

If you've tried over-the-counter products you purchased from your local pharmacy or supermarket and were less than thrilled with the results, then visit cosmetic dentist, Dr. Khullar and his Dentalways team. A dazzling, white smile can be yours in only hours!

Getting your teeth whitened in our office generally takes just one visit, after which you'll leave with a dramatic, noticeably brighter smile.

In-office techniques involve a translucent whitening gel applied to your teeth, followed by the application of a special activating light. Crystals in the gel absorb the energy from the light and diffuse and penetrate the tooth enamel, resulting in a whiter, brighter tooth.

This procedure normally takes about two hours depending on the degree and extent of discoloration you have.

The In-Home technique is a treatment created in our office but that you take home and apply yourself. This technique involves the design and creation of a custom-fitted tray.

A small amount of whitening gel, available only through a licensed cosmetic dentist like Dr. Khullar, is then placed in the tray by you and worn briefly each day. Depending on how stained and discolored your teeth are will dictate how long the tray is worn; during the day for a few hours or while you sleep.

This option is a more gradual process than in-office procedures, with results typically taking one to two weeks.
